Louis J. Merendo, age 74 of Monaca passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 24, 2021 in the loving arms of his wife of 48 years, Shelley (Murphy) Merendo. He was a 1965 graduate of Monaca High School and retired from Heritage Valley Health System Beaver Campus Pharmacy Department. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Monaca and Heart of Nations Catholic Ministry. He enjoyed fishing, Doo Wop, and oldies music, dancing, cooking, and spending as much time with family as he could. He was an avid fan of Pitt University Football, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He will be sadly missed by his son Derek (Johnene) Merendo of Hopewell, daughter Lisa (Don) Casteel of West Virginia and the loves of his life, his granddaughter, Giavonna and grandson, Christian Merendo of Hopewell.
He is also survived by brothers John Merendo Jr., Nick (Pam) Merendo, Tony (Michelle) Merendo, Rick (Kelly) Merendo, and a sister Charlotte Chismar, brother-in-law George (Carolyn) Kruel, sister-in-laws Colleen (Steve) Gornak, Doreen (Mark) Outlaw, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jean and John Merendo, Sr., mother and father-in-law Regina and Cecil Murphy, brother-in-laws Ed Chismar and Lewis Kruel, sister-in-law Adele Merendo, niece Karey Kruel, nephews Nicholas Merendo and Lewis Kruel Jr.
The family wants to express their gratitude to Vitas Hospice care team, Trish, Heather, and Dave for their compassion and care they showed Lou during his time of need.
As per the wishes of Lou, a private service was held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. A memorial Mass and luncheon will be announced at a later date.
