Louise M. Edwards, 79, of Monaca, departed this life peacefully on August 10, 2021 at her home. She was the adored youngest daughter of Michael and Maria Wasieko; sister of Robert Wasieko (San Diego) and the late Carol Thomas; dear “Aunt Patty” to nieces Karen DiPasquale, Linda Reed and nephews Robert Wasieko, Mark, David and Carl Thomas; forever Mom to sons Josh Edwards (Avalon, PA) and Matthew Edwards (Clifton, VA); and proud grandmother to Elaine Edwards (Alexandria, VA) and Colin Edwards (Williamsburg, VA). A lifelong Pittsburgher, raised in Mt. Oliver and Castle Shannon, she was educated in English literature, teaching, and social work at St. Francis College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, married in Mt. Lebanon, and became a homemaker, then served the less fortunate for 18 years as a caseworker with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Rochester. In retirement, she continued to enjoy the Pittsburgh Symphony, avidly watching tennis, cheering her grandchildren as they grew, tending her plants, and nurturing her lifelong love of reading. A memorial gathering honoring Louise will be held on Saturday, August 21st at the Simpson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue in Monaca, PA, from 11am-1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Louise’s name to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org, and/or the Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh, www.ccpgh.org.
