Lurlene D. Shively, 86, of Monaca passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Heritage Valley, Beaver.Born May 22, 1931 in New Florence, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of Wilbert R. and Stella (Campbell) Mardis. Lurlene was a graduate Johnstown High School and a member of the high school’s cheerleading squad. Having a passion for dance and gymnastics from an early age, Lurlene studied dance with the legendary dancer and actor, Gene Kelly whose brother owned a dance studio in Johnstown. She later auditioned and was offered a position as a dancer with the famous New York City Rockettes. She instead accepted a proposal of marriage from Perry O. Shively and was united in marriage on March 27, 1948. Lurlene owned and operated the Lurlene Shively Dance Studio in Rochester for a number of years and later helped her daughter Judy to open a studio, known as Shively School of Dance. Lurlene enjoyed people and had a magnetic and likeable personality which lead to a successful career as an Avon representative. Lurlene was a life member of the Eastern Star, and a member the former St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Agnes Shade Circle of the church. She was currently a member Chapel Presbyterian Church in Brighton Township.Lurlene will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Judy (Pete) Chirichetti and Raelene Huskins all of Monaca, four grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Chirichetti of Charlottesville, VA, Colleen (Tom) Karczewski of Monaca, Steven Spencer, Skyler Huskins of Monaca; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Karczewski of Monaca, Tess and Christian Chirichetti of Charlottesville, VA, Kali Spencer and Waylon Handlow of Monaca and her nieces and nephews, Sandra Stealey, James and Joan Kelly, William, Kenneth and Daniel Metzler, Michael and Dennis Goldberg, Mary Lou Humphrey and Lurlene Shifflett, along with her canine companion buddy, Queeny.In addition to her parents, Lurlene was preceded in death by her husband Perry, two sisters; Margaret Metzler and Mildred Fritschie.Friends will be received on Friday, September 22nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Steven Maker of Chapel Presbyterian Church PCA, Brighton Township, officiating.
