Maldwyn ‘Mal’ Evans, Jr., 79, of Center Township, passed away Wednesday evening, January 11, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver surrounded by family.Born July 2, 1937, in East Liverpool, OH, he was the son of the late Maldwyn Sr. and Margaret ‘Marge’ Parfitt Evans. Mal was united in marriage to the late Joan Eckhart Evans on January 30, 1960. They spent 47 years together prior to Joan’s passing on September 3, 2007. A graduate of Midland High School, Mal was a star player of the 1954 & 1955 section 8 championship basketball team. He was selected for the 1955 section 8 All-Star Team, the All-WPIAL Class A Team & received honorable mention honors for the United Press Class A Team of Pennsylvania.From high school, he went on to serve in the US Air Force, stationed in Japan & Korea, and he later attended Geneva College. Mal found employment at Arco Chemical Company, where he rose to the position of National Sales Manager before retiring in 1996. A member of the Monaca Turners, he was active with the club’s Thursday golf league for many years, obtaining a hole in one and most recently an Eagle shortly before his illness. Mal was a member of North Branch United Presbyterian Church.He will be sadly missed by his three beloved children and their adoring families, Terri Gumpf and her husband, Jerry, and their daughters, Courtney and Chelsea; Randy Evans and his daughters, Taylor and Riley, and their mother, Tracy; and Ron Evans and his daughter, Alyx; two sisters, Judy Miller of Boston, MA and Patricia ‘Tish’ Stewart of Midland; and his loving companion, Lois Sylvester. Along with his family, he will be missed by all of his golf buddies, and many close friends.Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
