Age 85, born and raised in Monaca, passed away peacefully on Thursday Dec 15 2022. Marlene was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie McClain and is survived by 12 first cousins. She taught Biology and Chemistry at Mount Mercy College, Gilmary School and Monaca High School. Marlene enjoyed her life after retirement as she traveled throughout the United States as far as Alaska in her motor home.. She resided at St. Barnabas for the last 2 years. Marlene was an organist at St John the Baptist Church beginning at age 14. She enjoyed her volunteer work including organizing community blood drives, being a board member of Monaca Hall of Fame and working in the gardens of Monaca. Marlene was a recipient of many awards including being the first female inducted into the Monaca Hall of Fame in 1986, She received the Ketler Social Justice Award 2019 and the Manifesting the Kingdom Award 2003, Diocese of Pittsburgh. Marlene was generous with her time and between 2012 – 2020 gave her talents to the immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers at La Posado Providencia in San Benito Tx. Since 1986 Marlene was a member of the Associates of the Sisters of Divine Providence in Allison Park Pa until her death. Special thanks to the Sisters of Divine Providence who provided care during her recent illness.
Friends received Monday December 19th from 3pm until 6pm at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca where prayers will be offered on Tuesday, December 20th at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. John the Baptist Church 1409 Pennsylvania Ave Monaca with Father Matthew McClain as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Beaver Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Sisters of Divine Providence, 9000 Babcock Blvd Allison Park PA. 15101 or to Mary Queen of Saints (St John the Baptist) 1409 Pennsylvania Ave Monaca Pa 15061.
