Mary Agnes Phillips, 99, passed peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Friendship Ridge, Brighton Township.Mary was born in Monaca, on November 15, 1914, the youngest daughter and last surviving child of the late Stjepan and Stephanie Siegel Susa. Employed for the majority of her adult life, beginning at McCreary’s Dairy Farm in New Brighton to Curtis-Wright in Beaver during World War II, she retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Beaver after 26 years of service.Mary enjoyed needlework, dancing and socializing with family, friends and co-workers. She especially enjoyed tamburica music and travelled to many major cities in the United States, Canada, Italy and Eastern Europe with the New Brighton Croatian Kolo Ensemble. The highlight of her trips was to visit Croatia, her father’s homeland.She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Walter Clark Phillips, in 1986; an infant son in 1941; three brothers, Steve Susie of Monaca, George Susie of Beaver and Anthony Susie of Canton, Ohio; and two sisters, Catherine Surmanovic of Canton, Ohio and Zora Sladic of Monaca.Mary is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Vincent Gentile of Brighton Township; granddaughters, Angela Gentile of Baden, and Alyssa and her husband, Patrick Michael of Center Township, and great-grandsons, Patrick Michael and Vincent Michael, students at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa., who were the lights of her life and who faithfully visited ‘Grandma Mary’ weekly. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Mayconich Susie of Beaver and numerous nieces and nephews and their families, including a special nephew, John Ulicny and his wife, Suellen, of Monaca.Friends will be received Thursday, September 4th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.Interment will follow in The Beaver Cemetery.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made, if desired, to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1409 Pennsylvania Avenue, Monaca, PA 15061.The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff of 3 Main, Friendship Ridge, for the care and patience shown to Mary.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
