It is with extreme sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Mary Hartenbach Brobeck, 83, of Center Township, who passed away at the home of her daughter on Saturday, Dec 29, 2007 surrounded by her loved ones from complications of Alzheimer.
She was the ultimate hostess, always able to stretch the meal to include one more, making every one who stopped feel welcome. Gram was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, homemaker, secretary and bookkeeper. She was lovingly known as the ?Candy Apple Lady? on Halloween and the best fudge maker at Christmas. She thought nothing of spending the entire night making Christmas or Easter outfits or even baby doll clothes. She was the strong, silent partner that helped to build the successful George M Brobeck Company from the ground up.
She was a former member the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Monaca and was a member of faith Lutheran Church, Center Township.
Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Center Twp., she was the oldest child of Howard M and Ruth Meany Hartenbach. The sister of William H Hartenbach, Robert A Hartenbach, Patricia Gass and Frederick H Hartenbach, all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George M Brobeck on May 18, 2007.
She is survived by her children: Cynthia Brown and her husband, George, Rebecca McDowell and her husband, Terry and Frederick H Brobeck , all of Center Township.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses: Emily Brown Kirkham and her Christopher of Hopewell, Dr Sarah Brown and her finacee Kyle Bahr of Columbus, GA and Williamsburg, VA, Carrie L McDowell, William T McDowell II and his wife, Jill, Daniel A McDowell, Kimberlee A Brobeck and her fiancée Phillip Hill, and Amanda K Brobeck, all of Center Township. She is also survived by her great granddaughter, Stephanie, an aunt, Anne Waxler of Monaca , a brother in law, Dr F.D. Gass of Coraopolis and very specials cousins, nieces and nephews.
Our very special thanks to Karen who lovingly cared for Mom these past months and thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice who helped to make the longest part of the journey this past month more bearable.
