Mary Ellen Capalbo, 65 of Center Township, formerly of Monaca passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at her residence.
Born December 24, 1955 in Rochester, she is the daughter of Shirley Tadich and the late Kenneth Kovac Sr. Mary Ellen graduated from Monaca High School class of 1974 and continued her education to become a Registered Nurse from CCBC. She loved being a nurse and devoted her life to taking care of people. Mary Ellen was a nurse for 42 years and worked as a home health nurse in hospice, was a case manager for transplant patients and finished her nursing career as a Nursing Supervisor at a long term care facility. She treated every patient as if they were her own family member.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, John A. Capalbo to whom she was united in marriage on October 16, 1976, a daughter and son in law Melissa and Christopher Leone, son and daughter in law James and Jessica Capalbo, a granddaughter Saylor Capalbo, a sister Karen (David) Lyons, a sister Diane (Jeffery) Pappas, a brother Kenneth Kovac Jr., mother-in-law Joan Capalbo and multiple cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Peter Capalbo, step father Lou Tadich, brother-in-law James Capalbo and her grandparents.
Mary Ellen was a fun, loving, outgoing individual who enjoyed nothing more than spending her free time with her family, crafting, baking and going to the casino. She was truly a special individual and would light up any room she entered. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in February of 2020 and never stopped fighting. She loved her medical team at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Shadyside Hospital who devoted themselves to her care and treatment. Her family would like to thank her medical team for the amazing care that Mary Ellen received.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday April 14th from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca followed by a funeral service at 11 am Thursday April 15th with Reverend Angela Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions if desired be made to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Shadyside Hospital in her name.
