Mary N. Marchione, 95 of Monaca entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
Mary grew up in West Aliquippa, a beloved daughter of the late Mariano and Cristina (Nolfi) and stepdaughter of the late Flora (DeVincentis) Marchione. During WWII at the age of 17, Mary went to work for J & L Steel Corp. from where she retired following 38 years of employment. She would often share stories about her years in the mill; how difficult it could sometimes be, but also how much fun she had and how much she loved it.
Mary loved to laugh, she loved to travel in her younger days, and was devoted to her mother and father. She was always interested in learning something new. After a serious fall, Mary had to work through several surgeries and extensive therapy to regain her ability to walk. She approached this challenge with enthusiasm and grace, never complaining. At each new turn in her recovery, she would say, “Well, I guess I’m not done learning yet!”
Mary lived with her faith first, saying it was her faith that brought her through all of life’s challenges. She would often say that she was blessed to have so many wonderful people in her life. To her family and friends, we were the ones who were blessed.
Mary will be sadly missed by her siblings, Ann Rehm of Moon Township and Anthony Marchione of Monaca, a sister in law Stephanie Marchione of Aliquippa and numerous nephews and nieces, along with great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by her brothers Marion ’Peter’ Marchione and Ralph Marchione, a brother in law, Robert Rehm and a sister in law, Ann Marchione.
A funeral mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Mary, Queen of Saints, (St John the Baptist Catholic Church), Monaca with Father Candice McMullen as celebrant. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to St Vincent DePaul Society c/o St John the Baptist Church, Monaca.
