May H. Ruckman, 96, a lifelong resident of Monaca, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.Born March 1, 1919, in the family homestead at the corner of Virginia Avenue and 12th Street in Monaca, she was the only child of the late Jack and Clara M. (Vogt) Huffmeyer. A graduate of Monaca High School, Class of 1937, she attended Robert Morris University and graduated with an associate degree in accounting. A retiree of ARCO Chemical in Potter Township, May had been employed in the accounting department for a number of years. After retirement, she and her co-workers gathered every month to catch up on the latest news. May was united in marriage to William R. Ruckman, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1996. They loved to travel, visiting many different places including the Indianapolis 500, as she was a NASCAR fan, and ocean beaches where she enjoyed swimming. An avid swimmer as a young girl she would swim in the Ohio River every night and later in life she enjoyed the YMCA pool. A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, May was the oldest living member at the time of her passing. She was active in the church’s Veda Whittingham Sunday school class and later in Senior Circle. She had an eclectic taste and collected Pillsbury Doughboys. May was also a Steeler fan.May is survived by a close cousin, Robert V. Newman and his wife, Karen, of New Brighton; and special friends, Melanie A. Smith, and Helen Keller and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Andrew Golletti (Leah), Seth Keller and Kaitlyn Keller, all of Monaca and who considered her as their special grandma.Friends will be received on Friday, May 29th, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, 1301 Indiana Ave., with her pastor, the Reverend Beth Wierman, officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church social hall.
