Michael Edward Hojdila, 94, of Monaca joined our Lord and his beloved “monkey” Shirley on March 12, 2016. Born November 26, 1921 in Weirton, WV, he was one of seven children born to the late Andrew and Anna Pauline Hojdila. Michael was a proud WWII veteran, having served our country in the Pacific theater as a medic until 1945. When he returned home, he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #712, and began his longstanding traditions of working with his hands, family and storytelling. He designed and built his current family home and homes for his children; he travelled across the country with them, creating adventures and making memories. Michael enjoyed playing cards and games, the occasional trip to the casino, and sharing tales about his life experiences. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. He loved to go to the beach and to dance with his wife. Most of all, he cherished his family.He joins his beloved wife of 62½ years, Shirley Elaine McCracken Hojdila. A devoted father, grandpap and great-grandpap, he also leaves: his son, Ronald Hojdila and his wife Joan of Center Township and their three children, David Hojdila of Waterford, MI and his son, Jacob; Daniel Hojdila and his wife Marissa and their children Nathan and Abigail; and Matthew Hojdila and his wife Jennifer and their children Parker and Matalyn; his son, Terry Hojdila and his wife Nancy of Raccoon Township and their two children, Jaime Hojdila and Todd Hojdila of Chandler, AZ; and his daughter, Debra Hildman and Michael Mihleder; and his brother George Hojdila, along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by siblings, Richard Hojdill, John and Paul Hojdila, Mary Mitro and Agnes Makowiecki.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 11am in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 819 Washington Ave, Monaca, where Rev. Robert Strobel will officiate. Internment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.The family has suggested memorial contributions be made in Michael’s memory to Mother Teresa Hospice, 3950 Brodhead Rd, Monaca, PA 15061.
