Mildred Mamula, 95, of Center Township, owner and operator of the former Cactus Lounge, Center Township, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012, at her residence.
Born January 3, 1917, in Jacobs Creek, PA, she was a daughter of Sava and Ljubica (Rudan) Mrkalj. Mildred was united in marriage to the late Nicholas Mamula, and together they owned and operated the Cactus Lounge, Center Township, for 47 years until the time of his death on March 31, 1997. She continued to operate the lounge for a number of years after his passing. Mildred was a member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, Aliquippa. She devoted her life to serving the public and especially her family by cooking and baking.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Lolly Hornick of Center Township and Darlene Goss and her husband, George, of Brighton Township; three grandchildren, Nicole Morelli, Christy Pantaleo and Timothy Pantaleo; two great-granddaughters, Gianna and Gabriella Morelli, whom she adored; three brothers, David, Sam and Mike Murkley and many loving nieces and nephews. Nuni also leaves her extended family of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Hornick; three brothers, George, Nicholas and John Murkley and her only sister, Helen Sommerville.
Friends will be received Thursday from 1 to 4:30 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with Very Rev. Fr. Stevan Stepanov, of St. Elijah Church, officiating. A Pomen service will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Salvation Army, 514 Franklin Avenue, Aliquippa, PA 15001.
