Milfred Wayne Smith, 89 of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Monaca, PA, was received into eternal glory Monday, May 5, 2014, after a short illness.Milfred was the loving husband of Janet Kratzert Smith. He was a decorated World War II Navy Veteran. He was born in Hempfield Township, PA, the son of Russell E. and Lillian O. Smith. He was preceded in death by brothers Russell and Paul Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Eileen (Hervey Albert) Steiner and Helen (Donald) Coughenour, and brother, Robert (Brenda) Smith. Father of Deborah (Les) Gottardi of Myrtle Beach, SC, Wayne (Vonnie) Smith, Lancaster, PA, Janet Rae (Charles) Schwab, Tionesta, PA, Oscar (Holli) Smith, Washington, PA, Randy (Marianna) Smith, Frankford, DE, fourteen (14) grandchildren and fourteen (14) great-grandchildren.He was a proud member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Lancaster, PA. A lifetime educator and alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh his career spanned 30 years. This included teaching science at WQED, Pittsburgh Public Schools and an Administrator at Oakmont, Forest Area, and Hopewell School Districts. He retired as a Child Custody Officer of Beaver County, PA in 1975. He was a past Master of the Monaca-Center #791 Masonic Lodge, also a Shriner and a member of Beaver Valley Retired Persons, past president. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, PA. 15061. Viewings Friday, May 9, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by entombment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa, PA. Milfred’s son, Rev. Randolph W.
