Nancy E. Burd, 78, a longtime resident of Monaca, passed away on Monday evening, December 29, 2014, at Kindred Hospital following a lengthy illness.Born October 6, 1936, in Avella, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Rebecca (Call) Dhayer. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was known as “Nancy the Great” to her great-grandsons. Nancy enjoyed working crossword puzzles and word searches. She was an avid football fan, be it professional or college. The family remembers Nancy as a vocal armchair quarterback, critiquing plays and voicing her opinions to anyone who was within earshot.She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Amanda (Tim) Yosten of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Patti (Greg) Hurley of Monaca; three sons, Donald (Annaliese) Burd of Buhlenburg, Germany, Deron Burd of Miramar, Fla., and Jason (Tammy) Burd of Monaca; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack (Diane) Dhayer and Fred (Darlene) Dhayer, all in Florida, and Rob ‘Tim’ (Estelle) Dhayer of Pittsburgh; a sister, Rosemae Anderson in Scottsdale, Ariz., and a special niece, Leslie Hartle of Carnegie.In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles D.
