Patricia (Burket) Crowley, a veteran of World War II and longtime resident of Monaca, PA,
passed away on September 5, 2021. Patty, as she was known to many in the area, was born May
1, 1924 to the late Arthur and Jennie Burket and studied art at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh
before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. On her twentieth birthday, she was sworn into the Navy and
sent to N.A.S. Patuxent River, Maryland. There she was assigned the operations desk. Among
other responsibilities, she was in charge of the pilot’s flight plans while keeping track of their
departures and arrivals.
One night, while enjoying a USO show, Patty was introduced to a gentleman named Bill Crowley.
One week later he proposed and the two were married on February 24, 1945 in a Methodist
church in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Patty was discharged from the Navy in 1945 and Bill, a year later. The two settled in Monaca and
welcomed two sons into their lives, Bill and Rick. For the next thirty years, Patty worked as a
draftsperson for Michael Baker Jr. Devoted to her country, Patricia always made it clear to her
grandkids, “ I as a patriot then and still am to this day. I’m glad I spent time in the Navy. Life has
to be lived. I say to you, my wonderful grandchildren, live well and may God’s grace be with you,
always. I love you very much.”
Patricia Crowley (Burket) beloved wife of the late Bill Crowley; loving daughter of the late Arthur
and Jennie Burket ; devoted sister of Joan (Charles) and Carol (William); dearest mother of Bill
(Judy) and Rick; cherished grandmother of Shannon (Michael), Jon, Beth (Kevin), Bridget
(Eamon), and a loving great-grandmother to Ryan, Rosie, Johnny, Luke, Maeve, Jack.
Friends will be received on Thursday September 9, 2021 from 12pm until the time of service at
1pm at the First United Methodist Church, 2816 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa. She will be laid to
rest at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Patty’s memory to First
United Methodist Church of Aliquippa.
