Perry O. Shively, Jr., 88, a lifelong resident of Monaca, passed away in his residence on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.Born June 21, 1928, he was a son of the late Perry and Pauline (Timar) Shively. Perry was an example of the Greatest Generation, having a strong work ethic and was known to be very patriotic. Perry first joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16, then enlisted in the US Army when he became of age during World War II. He was a carpenter with Local 922 for 41 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the former St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Monaca, served on the church council, and donated his carpentry skills to the church. Perry was a member of the Rochester F&AM Lodge #229 and the New Castle Consistory. In his leisure time Perry could be found travelling to local flea markets. Perry was remembered as Monaca’s first Eagle Scout.Perry will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lurlene Mardis Shively; two daughters, Judy (Pete) Chirichetti and Raelene Huskins, all of Monaca; and four grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Chirichetti of Charlottesville, VA, Colleen (Tom) Karczewski of Monaca, Steven Spencer, Skyler Huskins from Monaca; great grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Karczewski of Monaca, Tess and Christian Chirichetti of Charlottesville, VA, Kali Spencer and Waylon Handlow of Monaca and eight nieces and nephews, Sandra Stealey, James and Joan Kelly, William, Kenneth, and Daniel Metzler, Michael and Dennis Goldberg, Mary Lou Humphrey and Lurlene Shifflett, along with his canine companion buddy, Queeny.In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Kelly.Friends will be received Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Maker of Chapel Presbyterian Church PCA, Brighton Township, officiating.Interment will follow with military honors to be performed at 1:45 p.m. at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit Simpsonfuneralhome.com.
