Philomena Scassa, 92, of Monaca, passed away in her home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023
surrounded by her family.
The daughter of the late Ignacio and Rose (Belcastro) Parise. Philomena was born in West Aliquippa on August 23rd, 1930. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, John Scassa, her stepfather, Gaetano Darenzo, and her siblings, Anthony Parise, Sarah (Joseph) DiVito, Josephine (Robert) Rubino, Ester (John) Gerace, and Connie (Sam) Spagnoli.
She is survived by her children, Carol Decanini and Michael Urick, Mary Bozic, Domenic (Shelly) Scassa, and Valerie (John) Ammerman. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Steven Bozic and Nicole Annico, Natalie Decanini, Michael (Mima) Bozic, Dante (Jolyn) Decanini, John Scassa and Jessica Crews, Kimberly (Brad) Cochran, Krista (Tim) Thorsen, and John Mark (Amanda) Ammerman. The lights of her life were her six great-grandchildren: Shelbee and Gabriella Scassa, Evan Thorsen, DJ Decanini, Jace Cochran and John Mark Ammerman III. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Raymona Parise and many nieces and nephews.
Philomena was a life-long Christian Mother and member of Mary, Queen of Saints parish, St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time cooking and taking care of her family. Sunday dinners with the people she loved were her biggest joy. Philomena will always be remembered for the love and care she showed everyone she knew.

Friends will be received on Sunday, April 30th from 1PM until 6 PM at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:30 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10AM at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
