Raymond J. Hess, 83, a lifelong resident of Monaca passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2023. Known for his handy skills and his love for tinkering, Raymond was a man of many talents and interests.
Born to the late William E. Hess and Bertha H. Hess, Raymond spent the majority of his life in Monaca. He was a proud graduate of Monaca High School and continued his education at the collegiate level. Raymond’s work ethic was demonstrated by his long tenure at L T V Steel, from where he retired, and his subsequent 25-year career in the maintenance department at Walmart.
Raymond was a devoted family man, deeply loved by his wife of 56 years, Sharon L. (Walker) Hess, and their three children: Sherry Hess, Melissa Weber, and Rae-Lynn (Brant) Bundy. He was a doting grandfather to Tyler Hess, Jacilyn Weber, Jenna Weber, Treyton Ball, Ella Ball, Justin Bundy, Tyler Bundy, and Bryce Bundy. Raymond also had the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to Noa Taylor. He is also survived by a nephew, Bruce (Betty) Hess of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward and William Hess, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and a niece.
Raymond had a variety of interests that brought him great joy. Notably, he had an extensive collection of H O trains. Every year, he would begin setting up his train display for Christmas in October. Raymond also enjoyed working on cars, a hobby that showcased his handy nature. In his later years, he became known for his knack for disassembling things, even if he occasionally struggled with putting them back together.
In the wake of Raymond’s passing, his family and friends remember him not just for his accomplishments and interests, but for the person he was. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him
Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, August 9th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m.. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park
