Richard E. Smith, 69, of New Sewickley Township, passed away, Thursday, August 27, 2015.Born December 29, 1945, he was a son of the late Clarence E. and Bertha A. (Majors) Smith. Raised in Monaca, Rick was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, and furthered his education with a master’s degree in theology at Trinity Christian College in Illinois. He worked for a number of years as the physical plant director at Geneva College and was instrumental in the relocation of Route 18 near the campus. He later relocated to Boynton Beach, FL, where he gained employment as the residual director with Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.He leaves a son, Major Kirk Smith, USAF, and his wife, Rebecca, in Hawaii; a daughter, Melanie Smith of New Sewickley Township; three grandchildren, Riley Beegle and Carter and Robert Rushing. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Louise (Elmer) Preston of Monaca, Ronald (Phyllis) Smith of Enon Valley, Jack T. (Evelyn) Smith of Center Township, Paul (Jane) Smith of Monaca, Mary (Nick) Hodnick of Monaca, Robert Smith of Cranberry Township and William T. (Ana) Smith of Rochester Township; a sister-in-law, Patricia Smith of New Sewickley Township and numerous nieces and nephews.Friends will be received Saturday, August 29^th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at Monacrest Free Methodist Church, 995 Elmira Street, Monaca. Rev. Rick was my very first boss at my first job at Geneva......as a young high school kid through college and Grad school. My mother was his assistant, and he was a wonderful friend to her and our family! I have many wonderful memories of those times. He was always so kind and brought humor with him always. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Kirk, Melanie and his entire family. May you find peace and comfort in your memories.

Rick was a wonderful Christian gentleman. He kindness knew no boundaries and he was always joyful, no matter what his condition. I worked with Rick for many years at Geneva and he always was an example of a servant-leader: to the students, his physical plant and housekeeping crew and the college employees across campus. He created a special working relationship between physical plant and my department (athletics) and we enjoyed many great years of collaboration and growth. He was dearly loved by so many folks at Geneva. His ability to find humor in every situation was a wonderful trait and his capacity for joy was amazing! Jim and I extend our deepest sympathy to the entire Smith family. Rick, may the angels lead you into paradise!

I was so very sad to learn of Rock's passing. He was at Geneva during most of my 18 years there. I have so very many great memories of him. Whenever things weren't going well, I always knew I could run down to Physical Plant and Rick and his staff would have words of encouragement. I would always leave with a smile. He was a joy to know. Dick, Richie and Sheryl join me in sending our deepest sympathy to the entire Smith family.

My prayers go to the Smith family, Victoria, and those who loved Rick. I am so blessed to have had him as a true friend. A man of faith, always smiling, laughing, who spoke uplifting words, joyous. Rick personified James1:2-4,12 - who counted it all joy.

I want to express my condolences to Kirk and Melanie and the entire Smith family. I feel very blessed to have had Rick in my life for over 20years. He was an amazing person. Taught me so much about so many things and how to handle many situations. His glass was always more than half full and if you were lucky enough to know him your life was blessed. You will be greatly missed.

It is with great sadness to hear this news. Although I never met Rick, through the memories his brother Bob shared of him, I understand what a wonderful man he was and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the family for the passing of Richard Smith, one of the kindest, friendliest, and gentlest people I have ever known. I feel so fortunate to have grown up with Rich through High School and am so glad I was able to see him at our 50th High School reunion. Rest peacefully, my good friend.
