Richard E. Nichol, 92, of Monaca, passed away peacefully Saturday night, April 19, 2014, at Good Samaritan at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born March 9, 1922, on Colonna Heights (Monaca), he was the youngest and last surviving son of the late John and Effie (Marshall) Nichol. A graduate of Monaca High School, Dick proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, he found employment with J&L Steel, Aliquippa Works, in the bricklaying department, from where he later retired as a foreman. Following J&L, Dick worked for Baker Dolomite in York, PA as a consultant. For 65 years Dick was married to the former Mary Jane Postupac who preceded him in death on May 15, 2011. A laid back, low key gentleman, he was first and foremost a family man. A life member of First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, Dick served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a 60 year member of Monaca-Center Lions Club where he served as a trustee, a Melvin Jones Fellow recipent and was awarded Lion of the Year twice. Joining in 1953 Dick had over 50 years of perfect attendance and was the club’s treasurer for 14 years. He regularly served on the club’s board of directors and was the visitation and budget chairman.He will be sadly missed by his three beloved daughters, Barbara Ann Anderson and her husband, James Ronald, of Bay Village, Ohio, Merry Jane Hudascek of Little River, S. Carolina and Nancy Lynn Baur and her husband, Joseph, of Ingram; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, George Postupac; two sisters-in-law, Ann Postupac and Patty Ankney and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph and five siblings, William Nichol, Margaret Nichol Evans, Major Effie B. Nichol, who served in the US Navy Nursing Corps, Mary Nichol Kiggins and John Nichol.Friends will be received Wednesday, April 23rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1301 Indiana Avenue, Monaca with his pastor, Rev. Beth Wierman, officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH.Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.Members of the Monaca-Center Lions Club will meet today at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home to conduct a memorial service.The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made, if desired, to First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, 1301 Indiana Avenue, Monaca, PA 15061; Villa St. Joseph of Baden, 1030 W.
