Richard T. Smakosz, 82, of Patterson Township, passed away on Monday morning, January 23, 2017. His passing occurred at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born September 16, 1934, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of the late Adam and Anna (Ostrowska) Smakosz. Richard was a retiree of Phoenix Glass Company (now Anchor Hocking) in Monaca where he was employed for 48 ½ years, retiring as a traffic manager. After his retirement and looking for something to do, Richard worked at the Monaca Senior Center from 2001 to 2010. He also served as an officer of the municipal authority in Patterson Township for over 30 years. Richard was a member of the Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh and the Transportation Club of New Castle and a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Monaca. He served his country in the US Army.He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife, Mary Lynn (Uyak) Smakosz, with whom he was united in marriage on October 10, 1969, at St. John’s; a daughter, Maria Oles and her husband, Jeffrey, of Beaver; a brother, John (Irma) Smakosz; a sister, Mary Stolarski and a sister-in-law, Tanya Smakosz, along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Adam J. Smakosz, and three sisters, Frances Brown, Florence Skolnik and Stella Compa.A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28th, at 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, corner of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Monaca. Fr.
