Robert E. (Bob) Bickerton, 104 of Center Township passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
Robert’s wife, Mary died February 20, 2015.
Born in McMechen, WV on October 11, 1915. He was the oldest child of Jess and May (Logston) Bickerton.
Robert graduated from Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana in 1934. He worked 13 years for Wheeling Steel Corp. in Benwood, WV. and 30 years for American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corp. in Ambridge, PA.
He was a retired volunteer fireman from Center Township Fire Department, Co, #1.
Bob was one of the founders of Center Township Little League and acquired use of present L.L. and Pony Leagues fields.
He was a former Center Township Tax Collector, a former member of Center Township Water Authority and a current member of Monaca-Center Lodge #791, F & AM.
An avid sports fan, Bob rooted for the Indiana Hoosier Basketball, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Bob was Methodist by faith and attended Bunker Hill Community Church in Center Township.
He is survived by two sons: John (Kathryn) Bickerton of Center Township and Mike (Nancy) Bickerton of Laurel, Delaware. Two grandsons: Robert L. (Brooke) Bickerton of Beaver, PA and Timothy Bickerton of Pittsburgh, PA.Three granddaughters: Rebecca (Dan) Zurawski of New Market, MD, Kailyn Bickerton of Laurel, Delaware. and Aimee Mankins in Wilmington, Delaware. Four great grandchildren: Jonathan and Matthew Bickerton of Beaver and Sascha and Rachel Zurawski of New Market, MD.
Brothers in law: Charles Zaperach of Center Township and Paul Zaperach of Calcutta, OH. A sister in law, Candy Zaperach of Calcutta, OH.
Robert had numerous nephews, nieces and friends who he was close to and dearly loved.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Bickerton; his sister, Thelma Burkett; and grandson, Andrew Bickerton. He also was preceded by brothers in law: John, Pete, Anthony Andrew and Frank Zaperach. Charles Slie, and Charles Burkett. Sisters in law: Emma Slie, Julia Zoppelt, Sophia Zaperach, Anna Mae Zaperach.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 18th from 4 – 8 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am with his friend, Father William Evansky, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Monaca.
A special thanks is extended to neighbors, Nancy and Charlie Colaluca, the group from the Wednesday bar bingo game at the Monaca Turners and the nurses and aides at Brighton Rehab & Wellness Center who cared for him during his 16 day stay.
