Robert O. ?Horse? Nichol, 70, of Monaca, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 4, 1941, he was a son of the late David G. and Agnes Ann (Hurray) Nichol. A graduate of Monaca High School, Class of 1959, Horse lettered in baseball, football and basketball. He attended Tarkio College in Missouri. He owned and operated Horse?s Wooden Nichol Bar in Monaca. He later partnered with Eugene Liberatore and Jack Liberatore at which time the bar was renamed LNL Lounge. For the past 30 years, Horse was employed as an armed security guard at Shippingport Nuclear Power Plant for Securitas Security Services USA.
Horse was one of the original founding fathers of the Center Little Trojans football program. A former member and president of Monaca Quarterback Club Horse helped organize the Brad Davis Golf Outing. He was an avid golfer, belonging to several leagues with the latest being the PNA Monaca league. Horse enjoyed going to sporting events, especially when his children played. He was passionate about the Steelers and Pirates.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Michelle R. ?Shelly? (King) Nichol; four sons, Ross Nichol, David Nichol (Rhonda Sabo), Sean (Joanna) Nichol, all of Monaca and Robert (Lori) Nichol of Rochester; a daughter, Sherri Nichol of Monaca; two brothers, David A. (Louise) Nichol and Ron (JoAnn) Nichol, all of Monaca; a sister, Peggy (Joe) Kross of Patterson; his former wife, Karen Chunchick; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Horse was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Brantner and a nephew, Ron Nichol.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 5 to 9 p.m. in Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Rev. Fr. George Chortos will be the celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
