Robert W. “Bill” Stalnecker,Sr., 88, a lifelong resident of Monaca is now enjoying a round of golf on the lush, green fairways of Heaven. His passing occurred Wednesday morning, August 15, 2018.Born in St. Anne, Illinois, he was the son of the late John and Hazel (Anderson) Stalnecker As a young man , Bill first followed in his father’s footsteps and took up bricklaying as a trade. With World War II looming over the nation, Bill enlisted in the US Air Force in 1946 and served his country for the next four years. After returning home from military service, he gained employment with J & L Steel’s Aliquippa works (LTV Steel) where he spent his working career. He retired from the mill’s bi-products department with over 30 years of service. He later joined the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, Monaca as a dedicated funeral assistant until undergoing knee surgery in 2003.Bill had a passion for golf practically his entire life. He was introduced to the game at the former Pettibon Golf Course where the Beaver Valley Mall is now located. Over the years, he played several days a week at a number of area courses with Grassy Lane Golf Club being one of his favorites.Bill was a member of the Monaca-Center Lodge #791 F&AM where he previously served on a couple different committees and a life member of the American Legion Post #580, Monaca, He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor and ability to be a jokester at times.Bill leaves his wife June E. (Smith) Stalnecker, three children; Barbara (Ron) Sciarro, Susan (Rob) Dobo, and Robert W. (Karen) Stalnecker, Jr., five grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a brother, Charles Stalnecker.Friends will be received on Sunday, August 19th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where a masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 am with the Reverend Deborah Huffmyer, officiating. Full military honors will be performed by the Beaver County Special Unit at 10:45 AM at the funeral home.
