Roland E. DeLaney, 80, of Center Township, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born August 18, 1935, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Albert and Florence (Aiken) DeLaney. Raised in Aliquippa, Roland enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He received his bachelor’s degree from Geneva College and continued at Duquesne University to receive his master’s degree in education. He was formerly employed at Hopewell and Monaca school districts before gaining employment as an elementary principal at Fairview and Snyder schools in the Western Beaver School District. He was considered a great teacher in life as well as in the classroom. A man who could tackle five different jobs at one time, Roland was never without a project. He was a quiet, selfless and loyal man who truly loved spending time with his family. In his leisure time Roland could be found tinkering, working around his yard or fishing.He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Lois Jane (Dyer) DeLaney, to whom he was united in marriage on August 22, 1959; a daughter, Karen Lynn DeLaney of Monaca; a son, David Wayne DeLaney of Aliquippa; a grandson, Jessie Thomas Hribar and his faithful feline companion, Lovie.A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
