Ronald Stewart “Bookie” Book, 83, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend, of Economy Boro, passed away on December 8, 2018, at Heritage Valley, Beaver. Born on October 2, 1935 in Pittsburgh, a son of Thelma Morhbacher, he was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Parish in Conway for over 40 years.Ronald was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, spending the majority of his service time stationed in Germany, and worked for over thirty years as a locomotive engineer with The Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern, during which time he also served as long-time Secretary Treasurer, Legislative Representative, and Local Chairman of United Transportation Union Local 1590 in Conway. He also served as a member of The U.T.U. Legislative Board for Pennsylvania, in Harrisburg, fighting for the rights and workplace protections of railroad workers both state and nationwide, many of which still exist today.He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Rose Marie Lucente Book, on July 10, 2018, his mother Thelma, brothers, Lee Book, and Robert Book, and a sister, Shirley Book McGaffick, father-in-law DeWayne P. DeLauter, and mother-in-law Julia DeLauter, and brothers-in-law Richard Lucente, Victor Lucente, and Edward Revay.Surviving are his daughter, Julianne Book Kurtz and her husband Buster Kurtz of New Brighton; a son, Michael Book of Economy Boro; a grandson, Christopher Kurtz of New Brighton; a granddaughter, Lindsey and her fiancé Joe Lizik of Bridgeville, PA; a sister-in law, Betty Lucente Revay of York, formerly of Monaca; a brother-law, Mario Lucente of Baden; a brother-in-law, Ronald Lucente and sister-in-law Raylene (Cookie) of Economy Boro; a brother-in-law, Gary Lucente and sister-in-law Rosemarie of Freedom; a brother-in-law, Gerald Lucente and sister-in-law Christine Lucente of Rochester; many nieces and nephews; Godchildren and friends.Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm, and 6pm to 8pm at Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where prayers will be offered on Thursday at 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:30am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, 1501 Virginia Avenue, Monaca, PA, followed immediately by a luncheon at St. John’s Hall adjacent to the Parish.
