Rose M. Johnston, 85, of Monaca, formerly of West Aliquippa, went peacefully to heaven on Monday morning, December 3, 2012. Her passing occurred at Heritage Valley Beaver.
Born February 8, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Abruzo) Purrachio. After attending Aliquippa High School, Rose gained employment with J & L Steel Corp.?s Tin Plate Department and later at Gee Bee Department Store in Center Twp. She enjoyed listening to radio talk shows, especially Marty Griffin on KDKA, was an avid Steeler fan, and enjoyed watching soap operas. Her leisure time was spent cooking, baking and tending her garden.
She leaves four children, Thomas (Ruth) Johnston in Delaware, Terry Johnston, JoAnn (Tom) Najewicz in West Virginia and Jay Johnston with whom she resided; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Frank of West Aliquippa and Fiore in New Jersey.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Johnston; a brother, John, and a sister, Josephine.
Friends will be received Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the time of parting prayers at 12 noon in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Hopewell Township.
