Ruth Ann Michic Dewhirst, 76 of Monaca passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Margaret Michic and her beloved husband, Charles Dewhirst.Ruth Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Regina Dewhirst, her pride and joy, her grandchildren; Matthew Joseph and Melissa Angelina, her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Catherine and Garry (Jake) Venn, a special niece, Denise Myer and her husband Dennis and a very special great-niece Sydney, as well as numerous cousins and friends.Ruth Ann was a 1960 graduate of Monaca High School and a 1964 graduate of Geneva College. She later attended Penn State University.Ruth lived a full and happy life. She loved to travel especially to Disney World with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the casino and reading and painting on Tuesdays with Mary Catherine and Pat. Ruth Ann’s passion in life was teaching. She taught second grade in the Monaca School District for forty years. She started at George Washington Elementary, then C.J. Mangin, and finished her career at Monaca High School Elementary. Ruth Ann treasured all of her students and the friends she made with the faculty and staff.Ruth Ann was a member of the NEA and PSEA. She also enjoyed bowling on Saturday nights at Center Lanes with the Mt. Carmel Bowling League. She was a member of the New Brighton Croatian Club shuffleboard League and a charter member of the former Center/Monaca/Potter Education Association now known as Freedom United Federal Credit Union and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.Friends will be received on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where prayers will be offered on Saturday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
