Samuel Cox, Jr. 78, of Rochester, passed away at his home on Monday, November 6, 2017.Born on July 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Samuel, Sr. and Esther (King) Cox of Center Township.Sam met his future wife, Viola Mae Ruck at a wedding reception. The couple later married on March 8, 1958. Sam was a longtime member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Monaca Congregation where he served as an elder for many years. He was known to have ‘green thumb’ and enjoyed tending to his flower garden as well as camping and fishing at Pymatuning State Park. Employed as a steel worker until the mill closed, Sam later found work as a self-employed house painter and carpet cleaner.He leaves his wife, Viola Mae Cox, two sons; Samuel III (Diane) Cox, and Timothy Cox, all of Florida. A daughter in law, Karen, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great great grandson, and six siblings: Patrick, Harry, Flora, Russell, Sarah and JennyIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Paul and James Cox, a sister, Delores and a brother, Frederick.Friends will be received on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 10 am until the time of service at 1 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, with Stephen Lavely, officiating.
