Samuel D. Gracey, 88, of Hopewell Township, passed away, Friday, April 17, 2015.Born August 14, 1926, in Sewickley, he was a son of the late Pearl W. and Blaine Jacobs. A veteran of the US Navy Sam served as a radioman aboard the USS New Jersey during World War II. He was employed at Peoples Natural Gas as a foreman and retired with 40 years of service. A member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church and Coraopolis Lodge #674 F&AM, Sam was also a life member of Hopewell VFW Post 8805. He and his wife, Arla, enjoyed vacationing at the beach. Sam was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arla J. (Benedict) Gracey; a daughter, Donna Gracey (John Pedrotti) of Wilkins Township; two grandchildren, William (Jolene) George, Jr. and Samantha (Michael) Stefan, all of Dillsburg, and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Sylvie.In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Gracey George and two brothers, Howard and Harry Gracey.A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, 522 Carnot Road, Moon, PA 15108.
