Samuel G. Melchiorre, 92, of Monaca, passed away peacefully Monday, January 23, 2017, at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born December 24, 1924, in Monaca, he was a son of the late Anthony and Filomena (Vignali) Melchiorre. After proudly serving in the US Army during World War II, Sam found employment at J&L Steel, Aliquippa Works, where he retired as a foreman on the labor gang with 20 years of dedicated service. Sam and his wife, Julia, also founded and operated Melchiorre Distributing, Inc. in Monaca. After his retirement, Samuel enjoyed sharpening blades and chains for many devoted customers. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.He will be sadly missed by his five children, Edward Stripay and his wife, Irene, of Rochester, Janet Sichak and her husband, Bob, of Raccoon Township, Joanne Wilson and her husband, Bill, of Monaca, Samuel Melchiorre and his wife, Traci, of Monaca and Robert Melchiorre and his wife, Pam, of Olive Branch, MS; 11 grandchildren, Lori, Ed and Susan Stripay, Rob Sichak, Andrea Rogish, Erica and Krista Wilson, Amber Carver, Heather Batchelor and Marisa and Matt Melchiorre; 10 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Anita Melchiorre, Mary Reina and Angeline Fronko, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia A. (Ursic) Melchiorre, on January 19, 2016; two brothers, Frank and Joseph Melchiorre and a sister, Rose Hall.Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where a blessing service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. Deacon Anthony Giordano will officiate.Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at 10:45 a.m.The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mark and Amy in the critical care unit of Heritage Valley for their compassionate care and support to Samuel and his family during his final days, and to Donna for her care-giving at his home for many months.Contributions may be made, if desired, to Villa St. Joseph of Baden, 1030 W State Street, Baden, PA 15005.Sam will be missed, but fondly remembered for sharing his stories, life experiences and wisdom.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
