Cherished daughter of the late Lillian and Clifford Perts, Shirley Lyden, died peacefully on January 25, 2015, at age 80. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Lyden for 57 years and treasured sister of Virginia Gleason. Shirley was the loving mother of seven children: Janet (Walter) Culp, Joseph (Connie) Lyden, Jeanne (Edward) Blades, John ‘Jack’ (Lynette) Lyden, Jeffrey (Linda) Lyden, James Lyden (Sandy Keith), and Jay (Kerry) Lyden. Shirley is survived by grandchildren: Christopher Culp (Dawn Morin), Katie Culp (Chris Furbee), John Michael (Tracey) Lyden, Celia (Justin) George, Susanna (Marc-Andre) Clermont, Melissa (Gabriel) Albanes, Matthew and Benjamin Blades, Sydney, Paige and Jordan Lyden, Nichole (Dean) Falavolito, Daniel and John Dunfee and great grandchildren: Emily Lyden, Nathan George, Annastasia Lyden, Phebe Falavolito, Cosette Clermont, Gabriel Albanes, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was an outgoing hostess and a lifelong learner, an avid bridge player, who was active and full of life right up until her diagnosis in November, still working as a real estate broker in Beaver. Shirley loved to serve others and played a major role annually in the Berkshire Hathaway yard sale benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Shirley also served on the county’s Habitat for Humanity board as well as the Beaver County Board of Realtors. She was active in her neighborhood and in her church, St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Monaca, where she served in numerous ministries, including Christian Mothers, the choir and as cantor. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends. Friends will be received Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Monaca. A family relative, Monsignor Paul Joseph Belzer, has been invited to be the celebrant.Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. The family gives special thanks to the doctors and nurses at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Oakland and to the administration, staff and nurses at UPMC Cranberry Place.
