Stephen Joseph Turbish, Jr., 96, formerly of Monaca, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Facility in Westminster, Maryland.He was born in Monaca in 1920, son of Stephen J. Turbish, Sr. and Agnes(Novesel)Turbish. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, the American Croatian Social Club, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 580. A veteran of World War II, he saw combat with the 11th Armored Division in Patton’s Third Army from the Battle of the Bulge to the end of the war in Europe in May of 1945. After the war he went to work for J&L Steel Corporation, later LTV Steel, until he retired in 1982.He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, John, and his sister, Anna(Turbish)Nestich. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Ann(Kovacic)Turbish, his sister, Mary Chunchick, two children, James Turbish and Jane Mattes, four grandchildren, Heather(Mattes)Mattern, Jennifer(Mattes)Walker, Stephen J. Turbish III, and Rebecca(Turbish)Schniepp, and eight great-grandchildren, Katherine Mattern, Brennan Mattern, Stella Walker, Emmett Walker, Annabelle Walker, Abbey Walker, Sawyer Schniepp, and Elliott Schniepp.Family and friends will be received Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where prayers will be offered on Saturday at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
