Violanda DeChellis Petrella, 92 of Monaca passed away Saturday morning, Dec 28, 2013 in the loving company of her family at Friendship Ridge. She is no longer in pain and now resides in God?s presence with family members who have gone before her.
Born May 17, 1921 in Campbell, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Domenico and Lucia (Sebastiani) DeChellis.
On July 12, 1940 , she and Orazio ?Razz? Petrella were united in marriage by Father Canova in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca where she has been a lifelong member. Mrs. Petrella was also a member of Christian Mothers of the church, a member of the Monaca Sons of Italy (S.O.I.) ladies auxiliary for over 50 years and a life member of both the Monaca S.O. I. and the Monaca V F W Post 4653 ladies auxiliary.
An amazing cook and baker, her home was the family gathering place for get-togethers where everyone was welcome at her dinner table.
She leaves three children, Donald Petrella and his wife, Sherry of Monaca; Albert Petrella and his wife, Nanette of Exton, PA.; and Carol Adamek and her husband, Henry of Center Twp. A daughter in law, Barbara Petrella. Eight grandchildren: Lisa Neff, Dean (Dena) Petrella, Robyn (Pete) Tsudis, Tracy (Joseph) DeFelice, Jason Petrella, Jennifer (Josh) Miller, Raine Petrella and Mariah Petrella. Ten great grandchildren: Brandyn, Daryn, Joccelyn, Mia, Nella, Grace, Isabella, Sofia, Gianna and Renata. Two sisters: Alma DeChellis and Elsie Mandarino. A sister in law, Juanita DeChellis and a brother in law, Joseph Silvestri. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Petrella was preceded in death by her husband, Orazio ?Razz? Petrella. Three sisters:Stella Manzo, Josephine Tuccinard and Virginia Silvestri. Three brothers: Christy DeChellis, James DeChellis and Richard DeChellis. She was also preceded by a daughter in law, Paula Petrella.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where prayers will be offered on Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
