Walter ‘Whitey’ White, 65 of Georgetown, PA. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
A son of the late Everette and Antoinette (Melfi) White, Whitey was raised in Center Township (Sylvan Crest) and a graduate of Center High School, class of 1975. He then entered the U S Air Force and honorably served as a Level 5, C-130 crew chief aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. Following his military discharge, Whitey followed his father’s and brother’s footsteps and pursed a career as an ironworker. After completing the Ironworker’s Apprenticeship program in 1980, he worked as a Journeyman for the Worker’s Local Union #3 and was honored as a 35 year member prior to his retirement. Whitey loved being outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Whitey’s Georgetown home sits on 20 acres, where he was proud of his arboriculture achievement of planting hundreds of pine and ornamental trees.
Whitey leaves his beloved wife, Karen M. (Thomas) White, with whom they shared 33 years together. A stepdaughter, Kristina Green and a granddaughter, Brianna Green. Two brothers, John White in West Virginia and Clarence ‘Buck’ White and his wife, Sue of Elyria, OH.
Whitey was preceded in death by his brothers in law Fred Keefer and Gerry Thomas.
He will be sadly missed by his in laws: George P. Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Linda; George (Perry) Thomas III and his wife, Audra; Diane (Thomas) Thames and her fiance, Tom; Lynda (Thomas) Keefer and Pamela Salerno. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2pm until 4 pm at which time military honors will be accorded by the U S Air Force and Beaver County Special Unit and from 6 pm until the time of service at 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Service, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. Interment will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
