William H. ‘Buffalo’ Schwarz, 74, of Monaca, passed away Friday evening, August 1, 2014 at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1940, he was a son of the late John H. and Rose Marie (Kuzio) Schwarz Jena. Bill spent his childhood years in Shippingport where he was fondly remembered by the family for his orneriness.
Bill entered the U.S. Air Force in 1956 at 17 years of age and served a four year tour of duty.
Following his military discharge, he first gained employment in Baltimore, Md. and New Jersey before returning to Beaver County. After working a year at Phoenix Glass, Monaca, he went to work in the construction industry as a member of Construction & Labor Union Local 833 from where he retired.
Bill had a passion for cars and acquired a number of classic vehicles over the years. He was a long time member of the Cruzin Few Car Club and the Good Guys Association. Bill currently owned a 1964 Chevy Chevelle which he showed at both the local and regional car cruises. He also enjoyed boating and fishing at Pymatuning.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Mary Gregor Schwarz, whom he married on April 29, 1967; three brothers, Dan (Paula) Schwarz and Ron ‘Cricket’ (Debbie) Schwarz, all of Hopewell Twp. and Tim Schwarz of Swissvale and a half-sister, Pat Karas Stratigos of San Mateo, CA. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, Traci Scot of East Liverpool, OH, Mark Schwarz, Danny Schwarz, Jr. and Jesse Schwarz, all of Hopewell Twp., Rhonda Schwarz of Rochester, John ‘Bubba’ (Dawn) Schwarz of New Galilee, Ashley Schwarz of Monaca and Ron Schwarz, Jr. of Hopewell Twp. and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Judy JoAnn Schwarz who was four years of age.
Friends will be received today, August 4th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724) 728-4000, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am. The Reverend Ronald Schermerhorn will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hopewell Twp.
Full military honors will be provided at the cemetery at Noon by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 862-Beaver County.
