William R. ‘Bill’ Clear, Jr., 65, of Rochester passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.Born May 10, 1949, in Rochester, he was a son of the late William R. Sr. and Margaret E. Clear.Following high school graduation, Bill enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968 during the Vietnam War and honorably served until being discharged in 1972 with a sergeant’s rank. Bill worked a few years before returning to school and earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University. He and his family then relocated to Port St. Lucie, Fla. where Bill taught elementary school until his retirement in 1996 due to disability. Bill was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Beaver County Chapter 862.Bill leaves his wife of 43 years, Joyce Sumrok Clear to whom he was united in marriage on May 2, 1971. He also leaves two sons, Jason Clear of Rochester and Chris Clear (Judy Rice) of Brighton Twp. Bill had five grandchildren who were the light of his life, Haily and Chloe Clear of Aliquippa, Lukas and Nicholas Rice of Brighton Twp. and Travis Clear of Brighton Twp.; a brother, Robert L. Clear Sr. and his wife, Theresa L. Clear, of New Brighton; his nieces and nephews, Rachel Book and her husband, John Book, Jr., and their children, Trey, Charleigh and Greyson Book, Jill Clear, Jordan Snyder, and Robert L. Clear, Jr. and his wife, Amanda Clear.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Chad E Clear on April 4, 2009, and his mother in law, Helen Ben. Friends will be received on Monday, June 16th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Service, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where services will be held on Tuesday, June 17th, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Mel McRoberts, pastor of the Rochester Free Methodist Church, officiating. Full military honors will be provided on Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home.The family would like to thank Concordia Home Health, especially Barbara King, and VITAS Hospice for the wonderful care that Bill received while under their care.
