William \”Bill\” S. Toomey of Aurora, Ohio, passed away at his home in the loving care of his family on March 15, 2016. He was the only child of Ruth Shenberger Toomey and Harold DeWitt Toomey.Born in Windsor, on February 6, 1935, he was delivered by his grandfather, Dr. William J. Shenberger, a country doctor who kept his practice in the home in which he and his family lived. Bill enjoyed an idyllic childhood hunting, fishing and adventuring in the rural wilderness which surrounded the town where he grew up.He graduated from Red Lion High School in 1953 and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, in 1957 with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. He accepted a position at Jones and Laughlin Steel in Aliquippa, PA, just out of college and worked there in a number of capacities until 1985. Subsequently he was General Manager at Seneca Wire in Fostoria, Ohio, and ended his career at American Spring Wire in Bedford Hts. Ohio.Bill married the former Nancy Mangin in 1962 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, Pa. They have three sons whom he loved dearly, William H. Toomey of Aurora, Ohio, John C. Toomey (Jennifer) of Carlsbad, California, and Michael P. Toomey (Patricia) of Findlay, Ohio. John and Jenny gave him two grandchildren, Ariel and Chase Toomey, of whom he was so very proud.He is also survived by in-laws, Dr. John and Loretta Mangin, Joe and Antoinette Gottuso, Christopher and Renee Mangin and Terri Taormina and Dr. Rob Postupac and their families. Also surviving are cousins, Dr. Alan Wood, Art Wood and Anna Andrews, Jack and Eleanor Toomey and Jill and Robert Sawicki and their families. In addition, Bill enjoys a large extended family and dear friends who have been a great help during his illness.Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, 2016, from noon until the time of a blessing service at 4 p.m. at the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724) 728-4000.
