William W. Helterbran, 90 of Center Township on passed away Friday morning, November 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.Born October 16, 1927, he was a son of William and Mary Helterbran of Aliquippa. Bill enlisted in the U S Navy in 1945 during World War II and served aboard the U. S. S. Kearsarge as a seaman second class. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Medal for his military service. After returning home, he gained employment with J & L Steel’s Aliquippa works (L T V), and retired from the company’s blooming mill with 39 ½ years of service. He was a member of the North Branch Presbyterian Church, Center Township and several Masonic bodies: St James Lodge # 457 F & AM , the former Woodlawn Lodge # 672 F & AM, the Commandery and Eureka Chapter for 64 years. Bill enjoyed collecting model trains, working on small engines during his retirement years, and woodworking when he was in better health. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.Bill leaves his wife of 62 ½ years, the former Mary E Lawrence to whom he was united in marriage in 1955. He also leaves three children: William L. Helterbran and his wife, Pamela of Chippewa, John E. Helterbran and his wife, Michelle, of Waddell, Arizona and Janet Nagy of New Brighton. Four grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Helterbran and Sara and Mary Nagy. Four step grandchildren. Two great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Jean Shaffalo of Beaver.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma (Harold) Evans, Dorothy (Robert) Merriman and infant Anna Catherine Helterbran. Also preceded by a brother in law, Raymond Shaffalo.Friends will be received on Tuesday , November 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am in the North Branch Presbyterian Church, 139 North Branch Rd, Center Township with his pastor, the Reverend Deborah Huffmyer, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Beaver County Special Unit at the church on Wednesday at 11:30 am.
